Muskmelon Salad Recipe

Muskmelon salad / kharbuja salad recipe – refreshing Indian style salad using muskmelon ( or cantaloupe ). This light salad has a mix of tangy, sweet and spicy flavors and easy to make in minutes. During hot summer days, the only thing I look forward to is the array of fruits that are in season like melons and mangoes.


  • 1 muskmelon (cubed)
  • 1 cucumber (sliced)
  • 1/4 red onion (thinly sliced)
  • 1/4 cup feta cheese (crumbled)
  • 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves (chopped)
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves (chopped)
  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • Optional: 1/4 cup toasted nuts (e.g., walnuts or almonds)


  1. Prepare the Muskmelon:
    • Cut the muskmelon in half and remove the seeds.
    • Scoop out the flesh and cut it into bite-sized cubes.
  2. Prepare the Vegetables:
    • Peel and slice the cucumber.
    • Thinly slice the red onion.
  3. Combine Ingredients:
    • In a large bowl, combine the muskmelon cubes, cucumber slices, and red onion.
  4. Add Cheese and Herbs:
    • Add the crumbled feta cheese, chopped mint, and basil leaves to the bowl.
  5. Prepare the Dressing:
    • In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, balsamic vinegar, honey, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  6. Toss the Salad:
    • Pour the dressing over the salad and gently toss to coat all the ingredients evenly.
  7. Optional Nuts:
    • If using, sprinkle toasted nuts over the top of the salad for added crunch and flavor.
  8. Serve:
    • Serve immediately or refrigerate for 15-20 minutes to let the flavors meld together.


  • For added flavor, try adding a squeeze of fresh lime juice.
  • Customize with other fresh herbs like cilantro or dill if preferred.
  • Serve chilled for a refreshing summer dish.
