You must have heard of vadai or vada, which is best enjoyed with a tangy bowl of sambhar. It is a Puthandu special recipe and is specially made for this festival. Here is a vada recipe prepared using urad and chana dal along with onion, green and red chillies. This vegetarian recipe is very spicy and can be best enjoyed with coconut chutney, as it will balance the spiciness of this dish.

You would be surprised to know that this main dish recipe doesn’t require much of your efforts and can be made in just 4 easy steps. How to make Masala Vada

Step 1 – Soak dals

To prepare this easy recipe, wash and soak chana and urad dal in water.

Step 2 – Blend to form batter

After that, blend them in a blender to make a thick paste. Add red and green chillies with a little water and blend once again to make a fine batter. (Note: Make sure that the batter is thick and not runny).

Step 3 – Mix curry leaves, onion and asafoetida

Transfer the batter into a large bowl and add curry leaves, chopped onion and asafoetida and mix well with a spoon.

Step 4 – Deep fry and serve

Place a kadhai over medium flame and heat oil in it. Take out small portions of the batter and slowly, put them in the oil. Deep-fry them till they turn brown in colour. Serve hot with coconut chutney. Do try this recipe, rate it and let us know how it turned out to be.
